Welcome

The mission of CHARACTER COUNTS! in Stark County is to facilitate opportunities for character development throughout the area. Thus, we are offering articles and short “takes” to be used in company/organization newsletters or staff meetings. When using them, please include the credit to the Josephson Institute, the source of this information!

Six Pillars of CharacterSM for Business:

Trustworthiness

  • Everything we say and do should engender and justify trust.
  • We will act with integrity, assuring consistency between our stated values and behavior and by demonstrating the courage to do the right thing regardless of the costs.
  • We will be scrupulously honest in all communications, avoiding misrepresentations, deceptions and other dishonest behavior.
  • We will keep our promises and commitments.
  • We will demonstrate loyalty and be worthy of the loyalty of the public, our suppliers and employees.

Respect

We will treat all people with respect, assuring that no person is discriminated against, exploited or demeaned as a result of their gender, race, ethnicity, or any other improper factor and we will avoid any conduct that could be reasonably construed as abusive, retaliatory or likely to discourage candor and complete truth.

Responsibility

We will live up to our responsibilities to all our stakeholders, especially the people who use our services, by making decisions that need to be made when they need to be made in a way that safeguards the organization’s reputation and advances the long term interests of the public and the organization.

Fairness

We will strive to be fair in all our dealings with the public, our suppliers, communities, employees, and other agencies.

Caring

We will consistently demonstrate that we care about the well-being of all people affected by our actions.

Citizenship

We will constantly strive to be good citizens ourselves by obeying laws and regulations and by protecting the environment.
